It looks like the federal government will oversee investigations into Boston's Big Dig underground highway system.

The U.S. Congress passed a bill Thursday, Dec. 7, instructing the Department of Transportation's Inspector General to steer the ongoing probe into the design and construction of the project.

The investigations were prompted by the death of a woman last summer who was crushed by a concrete ceiling panel that collapsed.
