The man who founded J.B. Hunt Transport was listed in critical condition Tuesday and in the intensive care unit at a Springdale, AR, hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

J.B. Hunt suffered head injuries when he fell on some ice, according to various Arkansas media reports.

The 79-year-old J.B. Hunt started the trucking operation in 1969 with five trucks and seven refrigerated trailers. Today, the Lowell, AR, company operates more than 10,000 tractors and nearly 26,000 trailers.

Hunt stepped down as senior chairman of the company two years ago.
