New surveillance camera can detect explosives through clothing

There’s a new kind of surveillance camera just around the corner.

The Associated Press reported that General Electric researchers are creating a so-called “smart” surveillance camera that can detect items like explosives by recognizing the electromagnetic waves they produce – even if they’re tucked under someone’s clothing.

The same story quoted a former Bush administration counterterrorism official as saying there are now about 30 million video surveillance cameras in the U.S.

If so, that would be roughly one surveillance camera for every 10 people.
