Florida officials up in arms over gator-taking trucker

A dead 10-foot-long alligator that trucker Elliott Terry of Roanoke, VA, had hoped to convert into a pair of boots has ended up in a landfill instead.

According to The Associated Press, Terry accidentally ran over the gator on a Florida highway, then strapped it behind his cab for the trip home.

Florida wildlife officials got wind of it and pointed out that Terry could face a $500 fine for removing an alligator from the state, even though Terry claimed a police officer told him he could.

Wildlife officials have now informed Terry he won’t be fined – but they also confiscated the gator and took it to the dump, The AP reported.
