Colorado extends HOS waiver for diesel haulers

Colorado has extended the waiver on hours-of-service rules for diesel haulers for another 30 days.

The original waiver went into effect on Aug. 4 and expired on Aug. 18. The new waiver went into effect on Aug. 18 and will last until Sept. 17.

A state patrol spokesman told The Rocky Mountain News that the waiver was extended to allow fuel haulers – who are waiting as many as four hours in line to pick up their shipments – the extra time they need to make deliveries without having to worry about violating hours-of-service regulations.

Ongoing fuel shortages in the state have led to some stations limiting fuel purchases to 50 gallons per truck.

Mindy Long, a spokeswoman for Natso, an association of travel plaza and truck stop owners, told “Land Line Now” on XM Satellite Radio that a pipeline that ran from El Dorado, KS, to Aurora, CO, had been down earlier this year, which tightened supplies in that state.

That pipeline is now back online.
