The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance is going to be taking a closer look at truck brakes during Brake Safety Week, which runs from Aug. 27 through Sept. 2.

During that week, CVSA-certified inspectors will be conducting enforcement and educational activities aimed at getting the word out about the importance of proper brake inspection, maintenance and operation.

According to a CVSA news release, inspectors will be handing out brochures and CVSA’s “Spot Check” brake adjustment indicators, which drivers can install to help determine if their brakes are in proper adjustment.

The CVSA reported that brakes, at 56.6 percent, accounted for the largest number of out-of-service violations during Roadcheck 2006.
