Arvin Meritor to focus on automated transmissions

ArvinMeritor has announced that it will stop making manual transmissions for heavy trucks, and focus instead on the production of automated transmissions.

According to a press release, the company will still produce manual transmissions ordered before September, and will continue to provide support for its manual products after production ceases.

Mike Pennington, a spokesman for ArvinMeritor, told Today's Trucking the automated transmissions are easier to use and more popular with fleets, since they're easier for new truck drivers to learn.
