Roads in North Carolina open following Hurricane Ophelia

After battling the heavy rains and high winds of Hurricane Ophelia last week, all affected roadways in North Carolina now appear to be open.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s Web site, all roads that were closed by the storm have reopened, including North Carolina Highway 12 on Hatteras Island and Ocracoke, which was closed due to ocean overwash.

The hurricane, which meandered off the east coast for several days before moving ashore and dumping buckets of rain on North Carolina , did a relatively small amount of damage in comparison to Hurricane Katrina.

No fatalities have been reported in the days following the storm.
