Insurance company ranks 10 worst states for deer collisions

Just in time for deer season, State Farm has published a survey ranking the top 10 worst states for deer-vehicle collisions.

The winner – Pennsylvania , according to the company, had the most deer collisions between July 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005.

Michigan , Illinois , Ohio and Georgia came in second through fifth, respectively. In the sixth through 10th spots were Minnesota , Virginia , Indiana , Texas and Wisconsin .

State Farm said in a news release that there are an estimated 1.5 million vehicle-deer collisions throughout the country each year, with more than 150 resulting in motorist fatalities.

The highest number of collisions usually occurs between October and December – migrating and mating season for deer.
