The national average cost for diesel dropped a whopping 28 cents for the week ending Oct. 31, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.
The national average fell to $2.876 per gallon, marking the first time it has dipped below the $3 mark since late September.
The biggest drop was in the Lower Atlantic region, where the average fell 36 cents to $2.753 per gallon. The Central Atlantic region averaged $2.848 per gallon, while New England came in at $2.834 per gallon. The East Coast as a whole averaged $2.784 per gallon.
The highest prices were found in the Rocky Mountain region where, in spite of a 15-cent drop, the average price was still at $3.079 per gallon. This was the only region still above $3 per gallon.
Even California’s average dipped below $3 per gallon for the first time since August, coming in at $2.936 per gallon. The rest of the West Coast averaged $2.951 per gallon.
The Midwest and the Gulf Coast regions both saw drops of at least 30 cents per gallon. The Midwest posted an average of $2.907 per gallon, while the Gulf Coast came in at $2.846 per gallon.
