Joey Holiday releases 'Iron Pony Express' video on DVD

Trucking musician Joey Holiday has released a video version of his hit, “The Iron Pony Express,” on DVD.

Based upon the song of the same name from Holiday’s “Hats Off to the Truckers” CD, the video tells the tale of a convoy ride across Iraq with the American truckers hauling mail to the troops and their military escorts.

Footage taken by Iron Pony Express member Mark “Uglypuppy” Taylor – along with photos taken by Taylor and others in the 1544th Transportation Company of the Illinois National Guard – was used to create the video.

In September 2004, while performing at the Great American Truck Show in Dallas, Holiday was introduced to Taylor’s wife, Renee. She had with her poems written by Iron Pony Express driver David Baker, which she had promised she would deliver to Holiday. After the concert, she was able to meet with Holiday and presented him with the poems and other gifts from the truckers in Iraq.

Retreating to his Nashville studio, Holiday was haunted by the words Baker wrote. Using those words, Holiday created a musical vision of trucking in Iraq, where small arms fire, improvised explosive devices and insurgent attacks did not stop the Iron Pony Express and the 1544th from delivering mail to the troops.

“The Iron Pony Express – The Video” was released on DVD on Oct. 17, and can be purchased on the Internet at joeyholiday.com or uglypuppy.net.
