Indiana trucker helps police catch fugitive

If you’re a fugitive on the run from the law, it’s probably not a good idea to hitch a ride with a stranger and then tell him you’re on the lamb – especially if the stranger is a trucker.

Roscoe Fry, 24, had been at large since Sept. 29, when he and three other men escaped from the Henry County Jail in New Castle, IN. The others were arrested within days of the prison break, but Fry had remained at large until he was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 25.

According to the Connersville News-Examiner, Fry was hitchhiking in either Indiana or Kentucky when a trucker picked him up. Fry told the trucker that he had escaped from jail in Indiana.

As soon as the trucker – whose name was not released – dropped Fry off, he immediately notified police.

But the driver’s involvement didn’t stop there.

It seems Fry had made a phone call on the trucker’s mobile phone. The trucker allowed police to trace the phone number to a residence in Barstow, FL, a few miles from where Fry had been dropped off.

Then, the trucker called Fry at the number to verify that he was still there. He told Fry that he had left something in the truck, the News-Examiner reported.

Police then staked out the house, observed Fry inside, and made the arrest at the residence in Barstow, FL.
