Three community colleges in different parts of the country have received grants from the Department of Labor aimed at increasing the labor pool in the transportation industry.
The grants are part of the Community-based Job Training Grants program established by President Bush.
Hagerstown Community College, Hagerstown, MD, received $1.6 million dollars that it will use toward creating an associate’s degree in transportation management.
Central Community College, Columbus, NE, received $1.9 million in funding, and L.E. Fletcher Technical Community College, Houma, LA, received $3.6 million.
In all, 70 grants totaling $125 million have been issued through the program, though only these three are aimed at transportation, according to the Department of Labor.
