Diesel prices slowly drop; still above $3 mark

Diesel prices continued to slowly fall Thursday, Oct. 13. ProMiles reported that many areas had gone back down below the $3 level Oct. 13, though the national average was still $3.108 per gallon.

Meanwhile AAA reported a national average of $3.185 per gallon Oct. 13. That’s down from the record high of $3.20 the association reported on Oct. 10.

Supplies at most retailers are starting to get back to normal following the disruptions caused by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Flying J reported low supplies at just six of its stations in Texas, Georgia, Missouri and Mississippi.

Petro reported no shortages or low inventories on its Web site. TravelCenters of America, however, was still limiting fuel purchases to 50 gallons at stops in Louisiana, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Other TA locations in Texas, Virginia and Georgia were dispensing red-dye diesel fuel to make up for shortages in regular diesel.

Elsewhere, crude oil prices fell to $63 a barrel in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Oct. 13. Reuters reported investors became concerned that high oil prices were cutting into worldwide demand growth.
