If passed, a bill introduced in the House of Representatives will provide tax credits to the trucking industry for using anti-idling devices.
The bill, known as The Idling Reduction Tax Credit Act of 2005, was introduced by Rep. Kay Granger, R-TX, on Oct. 7. The bill is a re-introduction of legislation Granger proposed for the same purpose in 2004 that was never passed.
The new legislation would allow a tax credit of up to $3,500 for each truck outfitted with idling reduction devices such as APUs.
“These tax credits will help truckers with exorbitant (fuel) prices, while also reducing air pollution,” Granger said in a news release.
The bill has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.
