The blizzard that closed highways and stranded travelers in the Midwest on Sunday and Monday moved toward the Great Lakes Tuesday, Nov. 29.

On Tuesday morning, Interstate 70 had reopened after being shut down at the Colorado / Kansas border during the worst of the storm.

Sections of numerous other major highways – including Interstate 80 in Nebraska , Interstate 90 in South Dakota and Interstate 94 in Minnesota – were closed because of blowing and drifting snow.

The National Weather Bureau said winds of up to 70 mph were recorded in some areas, creating 6-foot snow drifts, toppling high-profile vehicles and knocking out power in the eastern parts of the Dakotas .

No reports of adverse road conditions in the Great Lakes region had been reported as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
