Routine stop sends trucker to hospital

They say speed kills, but in the case of one trucker, it may have actually saved his life.

Larry Riddle, 52, a driver from Alabama , was stopped for speeding on Interstate 65 near Franklin , IN , Monday, Nov. 21.

Local ABC affiliate WRTV-TV reported that Kelly Lazzell, the trooper who pulled Riddle over, noticed that the trucker was having chest pains and called for medical help.

Riddle was taken to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition. His exact diagnosis was not known.

Lazzell told WRTV that it became clear that Riddle needed medical attention during the stop.

“You’d never think speeding could save your life, but in this case it may have,” he said.

Riddle did not get a ticket for speeding, but he was cited for a logbook violation.
