Connecticut trucking firm owner pleads not guilty

David Wilcox, owner of the trucking company whose truck was responsible for a deadly crash near Avon Mountain, CT, in July, has pleaded innocent to charges of insurance fraud.

The Hartford Courant reported that Wilcox, owner of American Crushing and Recycling, and his wife, Donna Wilcox, who is also charged with insurance fraud, entered their pleas in Superior Court in Hartford Tuesday, Nov. 22.

In addition to insurance fraud, the couple faces charges of first-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny.

The couple allegedly tried to reinstate an insurance policy on one of the company’s dump trucks just minutes after they learned it had been involved in a deadly crash July 29. The crash killed four people, including the driver of the truck.

The company had allegedly cancelled liability insurance on all of its trucks in January.

The Courant reported that David Wilcox is due back in court Dec. 15, while Donna Wilcox has a court date of Dec. 13. Both are currently free on bail.
