Former deputy commissioner pleads guilty in Hired Truck scandal

Another major player in Chicago ’s Hired Truck program has pleaded guilty to charges in the ongoing federal investigation into the bribes-for-work trucking scandal.

On Tuesday, Nov. 15, Daniel Katalinic, a former deputy commission for Chicago ’s Streets and Sanitation Department, pleaded guilty to one count of mail fraud. Upon conviction, Katalinic is expected to serve 10 months in jail, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Katalinic also took approximately $15,000 in bribes from already-convicted John “Quarters” Boyle, in exchange for favoritism and work with the city for private trucking firms, the Sun-Times reported.

So far, 36 people have been charged in the ongoing investigation, 20 of whom were city workers. Twenty-four have pleaded guilty, and 18 have been sentenced.
