Shiver me timbers.
Police suspect a piracy ring may be behind a recent outbreak of truck thefts in Pennsylvania.
The Patriot-News in Harrisburgreported that local, state and federal officials voiced this suspicion after the latest theft of a Federal Express truck carrying a load of pharmaceuticals – including Viagra and Lipitor – from a Petro Travel Plaza near Middlesex Township, PA.
The theft occurred at approximately 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, when the driver stopped at the Petro for a meal. The truck is still missing and authorities say the thieves disabled the global positioning system used by FedEx to track its trucks.
Middlesex Patrolman Andrew Wolfe told the Patriot-News that the driver left the truck running, but it was locked and he had a spare set of keys with him.
The number B6226 is posted on the stolen truck. The trailer number is W44755. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Middlesex police at (717) 249-7191.
This is the fourth such theft in Dauphin and Berks counties since March. The first incident occurred on March 16 in the parking lot of Boscov’s Truck Stop in Lower Paxton Township. The second occurred on April 21 near Bethel Township in Berks County.
Another FedEx truck carrying medication was stolen from a Flying J station in Middlesex in August.
