Diesel prices ease downward; prices could be lower in 2006

Diesel prices fell again Wednesday, Nov. 9, across the country, though they are still not down to pre-Katrina levels.

ProMiles reported a national average of $2.693 per gallon, down 1.9 cents from the previous day.

ProMiles reported a low average of $2.426 per gallon in Virginia , and a high of $3.032 per gallon in Idaho .

Meanwhile, AAA reported a national average of $2.867 per gallon Nov. 9, down more than a penny from the previous day. The association reported a low of $2.616 per gallon in Oklahoma , and a high of $3.158 per gallon in Idaho .

Those prices should continue to drop heading into 2006, according to projections from the U.S. Department of Energy.

The DOE said average prices should reach a low of $2.49 per gallon by the third quarter of 2006. By the fourth quarter, however, they are expected to bounce back up to $2.68 per gallon.
