Two truckers in New Jersey aided police in a high-speed chase by using their rigs to stop two fleeing suspects.
The suspects – who were arrested on credit card fraud charges – tried to use a stolen credit card at a Kay Jeweler’s store in Paramus, NJ. The store manager notified security, and the suspects ran out of the store to their car and drove off.
Police chased the pair through town and onto Route 17. After weaving in and out of traffic for several minutes, the fugitives found themselves trapped behind a box truck in one lane and a tractor-trailer in the other lane.
According to the Bergin County Record, the drivers of both trucks stopped on the highway, forcing the driver of the car to stop. The car driver and his passenger tried to escape on foot, but were caught by police.
The names of the truck drivers were not released, but Police Chief Fred Corrubia told the Record that he was grateful for their assistance.
“I’d like to thank the two truck drivers who ensured the safety of the public by bringing this to a complete stop,” Corrubia said.
