Two more plead guilty in Chicago's Hired Truck scandal

It’s the case of the missing asphalt, and a few more of the culprits have been caught.

Two more individuals in Chicago’s Hired Truck case have pleaded guilty, raising the total number of guilty pleas in the scandal to 11. To date, 27 people have been charged in the case, in which city employees accepted money from several trucking firms in exchange for city work, as well as used city construction materials for private work.

Donald Warren, who was working for BBD Trucking Co. at the time, admitted to stealing 17 truckloads of asphalt and taking money to use for private work, the Chicago Tribune reported. At least 840 truckloads are missing from construction work done last summer.

On the same day, Commelie Peters, who operated LR&C Truck Line, admitted to paying bribes of $500,000 a year to city officials in exchange for work, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Warren will face one year to 18 months of jail time when he is sentenced on Aug. 31, while Peters could see up to two years for her involvement when she is sentenced on Sept. 8, the Tribune reported.
