As part of its plan to increase enforcement of state idling restrictions, the Framingham, MA, Police Department has started an education campaign to get the word out to local drivers about those restrictions.
According to the Framingham Tab, the department will host an informational session for truckers, bus drivers and residents on June 8 at 9 a.m.
Framingham Police Chief Steven Carl said in a news release that the city wants to emphasize the importance of adhering to idling regulations to operators of all types of vehicles.
“Whether you are behind the wheel of a truck, a bus, an SUV or a car, you should turn off the engine as soon as you reach your destination and safely park,” he said.
Massachusetts regulations state that diesel and gasoline powered engines are not allowed to idle beyond five minutes unless it is absolutely necessary to keep the engine going.
The following exceptions apply to the rule: vehicles being serviced; vehicles delivering refrigerated goods; vehicles operating power accessories such as wheelchair lifts; and vehicles running emergency or safety lights or equipment that requires more than auxiliary power.
