Oregon inspection blitz takes 32 trucks off the road

A three-day crackdown on truck inspections in Oregon has taken 32 trucks and 52 drivers off the road.

The inspection program, known as Operation Trucker Check, netted 88 citations and 221 warnings for truckers who stopped at the weigh station on Interstate 5 north of Woodburn, the Statesman Journal reported.

More than half of the citations were related to logbook violations, Lt. Gregg Hastings, Oregon State Police, told the Journal. Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, and one was arrested for drunken driving.

This marks the eighth time Operation Trucker Check has been used since its inception in 1998, according to a press release. Funding for the program comes from the Oregon Department of Transportation.

A similar, surprise inspection blitz took place in Nebraska on Thursday, May 27. Sixty-two trucks were taken off the road during the action.

Both of these inspections arrive on the eve of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 18th annual International Roadcheck 2005, which will take place June 7-9.
