Accuride recall impacts more than 1,800 trucks to date

Accuride initiated a recall in March on its Accuride brand 22.5-by-8.25 15-degree aluminum wheels. About 640 units may be affected by the manufacturer’s recall.

However, OEMs have to recall a lot more trucks than that just to find the suspect wheels.

Three OEMS have already issued subsequent recalls in an effort to locate the suspect wheels. As of today, May 17, Mack had recalled 58 units, International had recalled 197 units and Volvo had recalled 1,582 units.

Wheels manufactured between Jan. 15 and 17 may not have been properly pre-stressed and may experience premature cracking on the disc face that could result in failure. According to an Accuride spokesman, only 250 units in the “suspect” batch were shipped.

Mack units impacted by the recall include CHN and CXH 2006 models. International 2005 and 2006 models recalled include the 5000, 7000, 8000 and 9000. Volvo units impacted by the recall include the VH and VN 2006 year models.

The Accuride spokesman said other OEMs are also impacted by the recall of the Accuride wheels.
