Quick thinking driver averts explosion

The quick reaction of a driver, coupled with an emergency stop button, saved an oil company from what could have been a serious disaster on Sunday, June 12.

Michael Dawdy, a driver for Palmdale Oil Co Inc., Okeechobee, FL, was running his fuel tanker at the business – which has both a gas station and a wholesale oil company – when his engine blew and his rig caught fire, according to the Okeechobee News.

Fortunately, Dawdy made it to the emergency stop button near his tanker and shut down the whole operation and sounded the alarm for the fire department.

The fire was quickly doused by the fire department, and Dawdy suffered only minor injuries – singed hair and a twisted ankle.
