International launches summer-long truck tour

Taking a page from master showman P.T. Barnum, International Truck and Engine Corp. is setting up what it calls “the world’s biggest truck tour” for this summer.

The eight-city “Taking it to the Streets” tour kicks off June 29 and will feature 20 commercial trucks and several trailers “full of goodies that won’t disappoint,” according to a news release from the company.

Trucks on the tour will include International’s 4000 series for local trips, the 8000 series for regional hauls, and some smaller trucks such as the CF Series.

The tour will also offer drivers a chance to have some fun with two ride-and-drive courses, an air-conditioned tent and a remote-control course with a smaller version of the world’s largest pick-up truck, the International CXT.

The tour will start at Chicago’s U.S. Cellular Field and will criss-cross the country from New York to Los Angeles, finally ending up in Dallas at the Texas Motor Speedway on Oct. 19.

Drivers will also be able to register to win prizes, including a CF Series truck and a NASCAR race package that includes a trip to meet 2004 Nextel Cup champion Kurt Busch.
