CDL fraud sting in Florida doubles number of arrests

A crackdown by federal investigators in Florida has led to the arrest of 36 additional people on charges of illegally obtaining CDLs, hazmat certifications and access to South Florida ports, bringing the total number of arrests in the sting to 56.

A statement from Immigration and Customs Enforcement said the arrests resulted from a five-month investigation that has implicated a number of driver’s license examiners, as well as illegal immigrants using the service to cross into the U.S.

Land Line previously reported that people seeking a fake CDL would pay the corrupt examiner $100 to $200 and recruiters within the scheme $1,500 to $3,000.

Similar investigations in Maryland and Michigan have recently led to seven arrests.
