Vilsack opposes increasing speeds on Iowa highways

Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack will oppose raising the speed limit on Iowa’s highways, media outlets reported Jan. 5.

The current top speed limit in the state is 65 mph. KCCI TV reported that legislators in the state intend to introduce a bill that would raise some highway speeds to 75 mph.

The Associated Press reported that in 2004, the state showed the lowest highway fatality rate in 59 years. He also pointed out that the state has relatively low auto insurance rates compared with other parts of the country.
