Yellow-Roadway, the Kansas-based LTL giant, is talking about a possible purchase of USF Corp., a LTL, truckload and logistics firm based in Chicago, The Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 23.

It’s not the first time the firm, based in Overland Park, KS, has acquired one of its rivals. The firm announced Dec. 11, 2003, that it had finalized its acquisition of Roadway Corp., creating a single corporation with more than $6 billion in annual revenue.

The combined firm was already the largest of the LTL carriers, but could even become larger if it is able to acquire USF, which The Journal said is about a third the size of Yellow.
