Dothan rejects plans for new Flying J

After two years of fighting, Flying J has lost its battle to build a truck stop in Dothan, AL.

WTVY News 4 reported this week that the truck stop plans were rejected, losing by one vote. The Utah-based travel plaza chain had already met nearly 25 conditions set by the Dothan planning commission.

Commissioners voted 5 to 4 not to approve Flying J's development plans for the plaza on the corner of Ross Clark Circle and South Oates Street. Public opposition was led by Dothan Mayor Chester Sowell. WTVY reported that the main issue at hand seemed to be traffic hazards at the site.
