Transportation official resigns from Homeland Security Department

Another official who worked on transportation issues at the Department of Homeland Security has resigned.

C. Stewart Verdery Jr., assistant secretary for Border and Transportation Security Policy and Planning, announced his resignation in early February. He will leave his post March 4.

At the department, Verdery worked on policies related to immigration and issuing visas, cargo and international commerce, international trade, transportation security, counternarcotics and federal law-enforcement training, according to his biography.

Verdery frequently represented the department in congressional hearings and in briefings before numerous congressional committees.

He was nominated by President George W. Bush April 10, 2003, and was confirmed by the Senate June 19, 2003.
