On Wednesday, Dec. 28, Steve King, who trucked for the department’s forestry bureau for 10 years, filed a suit against the city. In the suit, King claims he was first harassed and later fired for refusing to involve himself with campaigning, and that promotions and overtime hours were often given to those who did make political contributions, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
“Mr. King was denied such benefits because he is not politically connected and was ultimately terminated because of his refusal to participate in campaigning for various officials, including Mayor Richard Daley,” King’s lawyer claimed in filed documents.
City officials have renounced King’s claims, saying that he was fired because he refused to take a drug test and was confrontational with a supervisor, according to The Associated Press.
