Another trucking company owner was sentenced
to prison time this week for her role in
On Tuesday, Dec. 13, Commelie Peters, president of LR&C Truckline, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for lying to a grand jury about giving bribes for work with the city.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Peters concealed knowledge about her company’s involvement with Hired Truck in a grand jury appearance in September 2004.
Peters isn’t the first member of her family to face prison time for Hired Truck. Her father, Leroy Peters – the founder of LR&C Truckline – was sentenced to 20 months in prison in October.
To date, 37 individuals have been charged in the ongoing federal investigation into Hired Truck, in which city workers accepted bribes and campaign contributions from private trucking firms in exchange for city work. Also, 24 people have been found guilty, including 13 city workers, and 20 people have already been sentenced, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
