Ohio plans to turn truck stop into parking

There is good news and bad news for truckers traveling through Ohio .

The bad news is that the state is planning to close down a rest stop on Interstate 75 near the town of Wapakoneta . The good news is that, not only are there plans to build a new ones at a different location on the interstate, but the buildings at the old site will be torn down to make room for more truck parking.

According to the Wapakoneta Daily News, the Ohio Department of Transportation decided to close down the old rest stops because of the deteriorating conditions of the buildings there. The restrooms at the stops were shut down two months ago because of bad plumbing. Portable toilets have since been installed, but those are only a temporary measure.

The DOT said it is considering locations in northern Auglaize County and southern Allen County, closer to Lima, for the new rest stop.

Construction is expected to begin by 2007.
