Highway 12 in northern California will be closed for two days for emergency maintenance and pavement repair from Interstate 5 in San Joaquin County to Highway 160 in Sacramento County .

This work is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 23, and Wednesday, Aug. 24. The highway closure will be in place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Detours will be posted, but motorists should consider Interstate 80 and Interstate 5 as alternate routes. Local access to residents and businesses will be provided.

CalTrans has scheduled this two-day closure to minimize impacts to the traveling public. Tina Walker, public information officer for CalTrans, said the complete road closure would allow Stockton and Rio Vista maintenance crews to repair two segments of Highway 12.

Walker said the work must be conducted prior to the foggy winter season, preferably before the Labor Day holiday.
