Texas trucker sentenced to 15 years for torching his rigs

If you’ve ever submitted a truck insurance claim – then got grilled by the insurer over every detail, it may have seemed insulting.

But the insurance companies say they’ve learned the hard way.

Take the case of an independent, long-haul trucker out of Weatherford, TX. He’s just been sentenced to 15 years in prison for setting fire to at least 13 tractors during an 11-year period.

Prosecutors say Randall Orff always had personal or company insurance coverage. They say he would usually start a fire in the tractor – making it appear that an electrical problem caused the blaze.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms reports that the losses caused by the fires totaled more than $300,000.
