The man formerly in charge of Chicago’s corrupt Hired Truck program has been sentenced to two years in prison for taking more than $56,000 in bribes from trucking companies.

On Tuesday, Aug. 2, Angelo Torres was convicted of extortion conspiracy, mail fraud and tax fraud, the Chicago Tribune reported. Torres pleaded guilty to the charges in March. In addition to bribes from trucking companies in exchange for city work, Torres also admitted to soliciting $10,000 in campaign contributions for the Hispanic Democratic Organization.

Torres was the first person to be charged in the ongoing federal investigation into the scandal involving the Hired Truck program, which originally came under fire in January 2002. Twenty-two people have been convicted so far, while eight people still face charges, the Tribune reported.
