Truckers traveling the privately-owned Ambassador Bridge in Detroit between the U.S. and Canada may soon find the trip a bit faster, thanks to the addition of seven customs inspections booths to the checkpoint.

The Associated Press reported that the Detroit International Bridge Co. is awaiting final approval from the U.S. government on the $3 million project. Work is expected to begin by the end of August.

The booths should be in operation by the end of the year.

The bridge currently has 13 customs booths that handle more than 4,500 trucks crossing into the U.S. each day.
