API notes need for legislation to protect diesel users

The American Petroleum Institute in a Sept. 9 letter to Congress said legislation to protect diesel fuel users is needed at a time when crude oil hovers near or about the $40-per-barrel level.

“The global market tension between supply and demand underscores the importance of addressing our nation’s long-term energy needs through policies that encourage growth in supplies, greater energy efficiency, and more alternatives. In short, passage of comprehensive energy legislation is still greatly needed.

“Diesel fuel users have not enjoyed the same relief as retail gasoline purchasers due, in part, to strong demand … Passage of comprehensive energy legislation is the clearest and best part forward in helping those most impacted by uncertainty in energy markets,” API wrote.
