Diesel prices set month's worth of record highs

The national average price-per-gallon for diesel fuel Monday, Oct. 25, reached $2.212, well above the Oct. 18 high of $2.180, the U.S. Energy Information Service reported.

For a month now – a historic first – the average price of diesel fuel in all U.S. regions remained above the $2 mark.

The highest prices in the nation continue to be in California, where the price currently averages $2.437 per gallon, and in the West Coast region, where the price stands at $2.380.

Meanwhile, in New England, the average price is $2.213; in the Central Atlantic, the price is $2.309; on the East Coast, the price is $2.213; it’s $2.161 in the Lower Atlantic states; $2.185 in the Midwest; $2.144 in the Gulf Coast states; and $2.278 in the Rocky Mountain states.

Among the reasons for the record-high prices, as reported by various news sources: Terrorism; continuing instability by Russian provider Yukos; and increasing world demand while supply remains iffy.
