Another Bush Cabinet officer resigns

Tommy Thompson, secretary of health and human services, has resigned his position in the Bush Cabinet, press sources reported Friday, Dec. 3.

A former Wisconsin governor who was responsible for that state’s landmark welfare reform effort, Thompson has served President George W. Bush since early 2001.

The Associated Press reported that Bush is likely to nominate Mark McClellan, the government’s Medicare chief, to replace Thompson at HHS. McClellan is the brother of Scott McClellan, Bush’s press secretary.
