Soon, trains in California will face the same boutique fuel challenge that trucks do.
The California Air Resources Board recently ruled that intrastate locomotives – those that travel only within the state – must use the low-sulfur diesel fuel required by the board in on-road diesel vehicles
Under the new rule, diesel locomotives that are covered under the regulation will use the new 15 parts per million diesel starting in 2006 in Los Angeles, and in 2007 in the rest of the state.
