Retired trucker wins the ultimate pension

A retired truck driver has won a $239 million prize from the Mega Millions lottery, the game’s administrators announced recently.

The driver, J.R. Triplett of Winchester, VA, and his wife, Peggy, claimed the prize recently. Triplett, who drove a truck for 47 years, bought the ticket at Red Apple in Stephens City, VA, just a few miles from his home.

Lottery officials said in a release that it was the largest jackpot ever in Virginia and the second largest undivided jackpot in U.S. history.

Triplett said in a statement that his wife cried and prayed when they discovered he had won the prize. Triplett himself took a calmer approach.

“It didn’t excite me all that much,” he said. “It’s no big thing to me.”

The retired trucker discovered the winning numbers on his ticket Feb. 21, but did not claim the prize until April 1.

The Mega Millions game is a multistate lottery that includes Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
