If your truck breaks down in the hot desert sands southwest of Las Vegas, don’t despair – the only thing between you and help is about a half-mile hike.
The state of Nevada is installing a series of 60 call box style phones along Interstate 15, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported recently. The phones, which are solar powered and use cellular technology, will be spaced about a mile apart.

Although most people on the highway have cell phones, state officials told the newspaper the call boxes would cover dead areas in the cell phone network and provide a means of asking for assistance for those who do not have cells.
