Fluor Virginia has submitted a plan to the state that would involve new high-occupancy toll lanes along Interstate 95 from central Virginia to the Capital Beltway, The Washington Post reported.
The lanes would travel along I-95 from Massaponax, 56 miles south of the District of Columbia, to the Beltway, which is considering a similar plan, the newspaper reported. Under the $1 billion plan, drivers could pay a toll to get into higher-speed, less congested lanes.
Flour is one of two firms that are building plans for an expansion and rebuilding of I-81 in Virginia that would also involve tolls.
At least one other firm, Clark/SCC/KPRI, is developing a competing plan for the I-95 corridor, The Post said.
