Relieving yourself in the wrong place could relieve you of your freedom in Wyoming now that a bill targeting pee bottles has become law.
Proposed by Sen. Bill Vasey, D-Albany, Senate File 55 – now Enrolled Act 23 – targets drivers who urinate in bottles and then toss them alongside the highways.
The law increases the penalty for littering if the litter involves disposal of body fluids. The penalty for pee-bottle tossing can run up to nine months in prison, up to a $1,000 fine, or both. A provision allows for a suspended sentence with the violator spending up to 40 hours cleaning litter from public roads, parks or other public areas.
SF55 passed the Senate Feb. 25 by a vote of 26-4. The House approved the bill March 3 by a vote of 45-13. Gov. Dave Freudenthal signed the bill into law March 5.
