More than 300 transportation professionals convened at the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association’s Transportation Finance Summit in Washington, DC, March 3-5 to discuss ways to fund transportation other than through fuel tax increases.
The discussion centered on financing mechanisms and new approaches to tolling. John Horsley, executive director, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, joined American Road and Transportation Builders Association President and Chief Executive Peter Ruane and Bill Millar, president of the American Public Transportation Association, on a panel.
They discussed reauthorization of transportation spending legislation and the nation’s future infrastructure needs. Horsley reaffirmed support for a six-year bill. He said AASHTO, along with its other partners, support a minimum $318 billion bill, which was passed by the Senate.
