Officials in Florida say they will force road builders who close lanes during rush hour to stop work and reopen the lanes, The Palm Beach Post reported March 2.
The action was taken in response to a number of lane closures during high-traffic situations, including one near the South Florida Fair that caused considerable traffic problems.
Any contractor who does not have proper permits to shut down a lane, but who has closed one, will have to stop work immediately, the newspaper reported.
In addition, the state will put up signs at every road project that list the Department of Transportation phone number and Web site, as well as the name of the contractor.
